Rose Bowletin - Week  6

Week seven marks the halfway point of the college football season. But we're also in the midst of the MLB playoffs, NFL season, and the NHL and NBA are about to begin. With everything going on, you've got plenty of options to fulfill your sports needs, but nothing quite quenches your sports thirst like college football.

At the mid-point of last season, we actually had a very accurate picture of the College Football Playoff. Eventual National Champion Clemson was ranked No. 3, while Alabama was No. 1. Washington sat in wait at No. 5, knowing that No. 2 Ohio State and No. 4 Michigan would play each other and knock the other out. Now, it didn't exactly play out as cleanly as I made it seem; Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Washington were the four teams playing for the National Championship last year. The Buckeyes fell to Penn State in late October, while Clemson and Washington lost on the same day in early November.

The initial College Football Playoff rankings will come out on Halloween, but if we apply the same rule as last year and look at the top-five in the current rankings, we can potentially get a snapshot at this year's top-four.

Alabama and Clemson remain at the top of the rankings and appear to be the best teams in the nation, but are followed by Penn State, Georgia and Washington. The Nittany Lions have this weekend off, but play No. 17 Michigan, No. 9 Ohio State and No. 21 Michigan State as their next three games. There's potential for a loss in that bunch. Georgia has just one ranked opponent left on the schedule (at Auburn on 11/11), but will likely have to play Alabama in the SEC Championship. Washington finishes the year at No. 23 Stanford, then at home against Utah and No. 8 Washington State. If both Washington and Wazzu are undefeated going into the Apple Cup, it could have Rose Bowl Game implications for the first time since 1981.

But as we all know, college football rarely goes according to the plan.
