Although Autumn technically began in late September, it doesn't feel official until the calendar flips over and reads October.
Autumn is a time for change. The weather shifts and brings a crisp to the air. The trees go from green to yellow, red, orange and all the colors in-between. Eventually, the leaves fall and give way for the old to go and the new to come in.
Could change be in store for college football as well? Could the mainstays go and make way for the new?
Penn State, Georgia, Michigan, TCU, Wisconsin and Washington State are all looking to make their way into the College Football Playoff for the first time. Could there be a changing of the guard in college football? Will Alabama, who has been in the playoff all three years, or Clemson, who has played in the last two playoffs, be left out in the cold come January? Both teams appear to be as strong as ever, but in college football, every game counts and upsets seem to happen each year.
There is still a lot of football left to be play, but by the end of this month, the initial 2017 College Football Playoff rankings will be released and we'll get our first insights into who the selection committee believes are the best teams in country.
So until then, throw on your coziest sweater, grab something pumpkin spiced and settle in for some great football, beginning with the action tonight and tomorrow night:
